How do I prevent issues before they arise?
A True Doors ® tutorial
A detailed guide on how to prepare a door to avoid future problems when applying a True Door decal.
How do I prepare a door to prevent problems during or after applying a True Door decal? The key is to ensure the surface of the door is completely smooth because any unevenness will be visible under the True Door.
1. **Inspect and Repair:**
If there's damage on the door due to the weather strip on the door frame, address it first. Look out for improperly tightened screws or bends on metal weatherstrips. If the door closes too tightly against the strip, it will cause friction with the True Door.
2. **Preparation Steps:**
- **Filling Holes:** Fill any holes or deep scratches with a filler and sand them to a smooth finish.
- **Removing Paint Splashes and Unevenness:** Use a knife or sander to remove any paint splashes, other unevenness, or even a single grain of sand as these can show through the True Door.
- **Removing Stickers and Adhesive Tapes:** Remove all stickers and adhesive tapes. Use sticker remover for any remaining glue residue since even small pieces can be visible. For nameplates, if glued on, remove them completely. If screwed on, you can wait until the day of application.
3. **Final Cleaning:**
- In the 24 hours before applying the True Door, make sure the door is thoroughly clean and free of any grease. Residual grease will prevent proper adhesion of the True Door, especially at the edges where the doorcloses behind the door frame.
